For Adults: Sunday School

Sunday School, Fall 2007...

With fall comes the beginning of new adventures and our Adult Sunday School Program is no exception. Classes this year will begin at 9:15 for fellowship and teachers will begin teaching at 9:30. Below are the classes that are going to be offered this fall.

  • The Present Word

Leader: Frank Jenkins and (TBD) – Location: parlor on second floor.  Length: Sept.–Nov.  (A new topic for Winter will begin in December.)

This Fall the class will be exploring Genesis on the topic, “Called To Be God’s People.”

The three units in this quarter trace the story of God's creative power from the creation of the universe through human creation to the creation of a covenant people. When the people were threatened with starvation and death, God preserved their lives and continued to bless them.

  • Adult Inquirers

Leaders: Mark Ruppert, Pat Franklin – Location: Mark’s office.  Length: Sept.-mid-Nov.

The Adult Inquirers class provides attendees with an understanding of the Christian faith and the Presbyterian denomination.  It explores the basic tenets, practices and structure of the denomination.  It uncovers the history of the Presbyterian church including the history of our own congregation.  The class is also used to expose participants to the various areas of service offered at FPC and the chance to uncover your own spiritual gifts.  All of this is tied back into foundation of the Christian faith.  The class is designed for seekers who may be interested in church membership, although becoming a member is optional.  The class is also open to members who want a refresher on their church.

  • Strengthening Your Walk With Christ

Leaders: Mark and Jana Ford – Location: 205-206.  Length: Sept.-Dec.

Maybe the word, “disciple” intimidates you.  Maybe you think this is a title for only perfect people.   Discipleship isn’t a destination; it’s a lifelong journey of learning and growing to be more like Christ.  It doesn’t mean you’re sinless, but you do sin less. “Remain in Me” is something that Christ has asked us all to do with the promise of Him remaining in us if we do.  If you want to start your journey or want to strengthen your commitment to living a life that follows Christ, you will want to be part of this dynamic class each Sunday morning this Fall.

  • Study of Hebrews

(The Early Class meets from 8:45 – 10:00 AM.) – leaders: Keith Morgenstern and Dick Franklin.  Location: Fellowship Hall.  Length: Sept.-Dec.

Jewish Christians are under fire from non-Christian kinsmen for neglecting their Jewish traditions.  Faced with hostility, the loss of friends, and worse, many of them are tempted to hide their faith in Christ.  Hebrews is a letter written by a trusted mentor who reminds them of the superiority of Christ.  The letter to the Hebrews reigns unchallenged as the New Testament’s finest commentary on the relationship between Christ and the Old Testament.  Its stirring message will challenge you to live wholeheartedly for Him in every situation.
