Sunday
School, Fall 2011...
With fall comes the beginning of new adventures and our Adult Sunday School Program is no
exception. Classes this year will begin at 10:15. Below are the classes that are going to be offered this fall.
Why Pray?
Leader: Various – Location: 205-206
Why Pray? is the title for the fall adult class. Maybe you have made a request to God
and wondered if it made any difference. Is God answering my prayers? If not, why not?
If He is, how is He doing it, because what is happening isn't quite what I asked for?
Did I ask wrongly then? We grapple with these and other questions on the activity of
praying with the aid of the book PRAYING: FINDING OUR WAY FROM DUTY TO DELIGHT by
J.I. Packer and Carolyn Nystrom. The authors refer to themselves as junior strugglers
in the practice of prayer. Their "aim is not to just clarify Christian understanding but
to fostor Christian living. In real praying, head, heart and hand go together." They
examine moods of prayer like "brooding, praising, asking, complaining, and hanging on."
Fellow prayer strugglers, do not miss this study and practice of prayer. Your spiritual
health may depend on it.
Adult Inquirers
Leaders: Mark Ruppert, Pat Franklin – Location: Mark’s office. Length:
Sept.-mid-Nov.
The Adult Inquirers class provides attendees with an
understanding of the Christian faith and the Presbyterian
denomination. It explores the basic tenets, practices and
structure of the denomination. It uncovers the history of the
Presbyterian church including the history of our own
congregation. The class is also used to expose participants to
the various areas of service offered at FPC and the chance to
uncover your own spiritual gifts. All of this is tied back into
foundation of the Christian faith. The class is designed for
seekers who may be interested in church membership, although
becoming a member is optional. The class is also open to members
who want a refresher on their church.
