Our
Ministries: Guest Organizations
Each
one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully
administering God's grace in its various forms. I Peter 10...
We share our facilities with these organizations who, in turn,
share special gifts with us and the greater community.
Daughters
of Scotia
An organization of women maintaining their ties to their homeland
- Scotland. We meet twice a month at First Presbyterian Church.
It is a charitable group of women; at the annual convention they
gave over $60,0000 to several health charities. In 2006 the convention
will be held in Nashville, TN. The members also help FPC with the
Scottish weekend in November.
Hope Child Care
The
YMCA Hope Child Care Program provides year around child care for
children 6 weeks to 5 years of age while their parents are working
or attending training programs.
The
center hires qualified staff who prepare and supervise activities
that are age appropriate and stimulate the social, emotional and
education growth of each child. WE are continuing to use the Creative
Curriculum with the children. During 2005 the center served 172
different children. in early 2006 we have have 43 children
enrolled. Our license capacity is 50.
The center continues to be involved with Child Care NOW Program.
This program is sponsored by Summit County Children Services and
it provides short-term respite childcare for special/emergency
situations. We served 83 children through this program in 2005.
Many of the children used the service more than one time. This
program is free to parents.
The center sponsored four family events in 2005. In April we had
"Muffins from Me." In June we had "donuts for Dad." August we had
an "Ice Cream Social" and in December we had "The Children's Christmas
Party and Gift Exchange/Luncheon."
The summer day camp program for school age children went well
last summer. We served 8-10 children daily. We are hoping this
year, 2006 will be even better. We are licensed for 12 school age
children.
The center raised $6362 for PWY tuition assistance in 2005. A
special thanks to First Presbyterian Church Members and Friends
for your support. We were able to make a difference with our families
because of you.

Celtic
Eagle Pipe
Band
The Celtic Eagle Pipe Band is a traditional competitive bagpipe
and drum band formed in 2005. The membership of the band is made
up of volunteers who have already achieved proficiency on their
instruments and desire to test their skills in competition with
other regional bagpipe bands. Our main purpose is to educate and
portray Celtic music as performed on Scottish bagpipers and drums
in the competitive arena. We also perform for non-competitive social
occasions such as the "Kirkin O'the Tartans" ceremony held at FPC
this past Fall. We currently are the only competitive bagpipe
band in the Akron area, and it is our hope that in the future we
will grow to be a beacon of this aspect of Scottish and Irish heritage
within our community.
Summit Bells
Summit Bells is a community-based hand bell choir. They perform
throughout the region and periodically bless us with a "Thank You"
concert.
Say Yes to Life Meeting of Cocaine Anonymous
A fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength
and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem
and help others to recover from their addition. The only requirement
for membership is a desire to stop using cocaine and all other
mind-altering substances. There are no dues or fees for membership;
we are self-supporting through our own contributions. The group
meets every Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the parlor. We welcome anyone
who wishes to live life happy, joyous and free.
